I only caught up yesterday with the new Handmaid’s Tale new season, and binge-watched the first 5 episodes. I really like the softened down version of Gilead and the diplomatic zone between Canada and it. It comes to show that even the most totalitarian regime can’t survive for too long without elements of progress, or rather perceived progress.
The deception necessary for the existence of any world order is not viable without making people believe that things are on the way to become better, all while reinforcing the same patterns of oppression.
The great reset you thought was coming from the pandemic and an irrelevant international economy forum is currently being embraced by the same people who fought it tooth and nail. The precedents for lawlessness, political lawfare (a.k.a. frivolous lawsuits against political opponents) and judicial uselessness have been firmly set over the past 5 years.
The people who complain now were entirely in favor of totalitarian mandates for years, including thousands of executive orders with zero judicial oversight due to covid. Now unlimited executive power has been fully normalized and the people who used to complain are totally on board with executive orders canceling due process. It means that the judicial branch will likely disappear from the map in North America, a bit like the federal parliament disappeared from Canada since last year and everyone thinks it’s perfectly fine to live without parliament. Maybe we never needed the legislative and the judiciary branch ever. Who knows, let’s find out .
